our story
“You’ll be running the business one day,” Jane would often say to her daughters, Jasmine and Bella. At the time, it felt more like an observation than a prediction. Their childhood was spent immersed in the realities of a working design studio, picking up pins from the floor, navigating fabric rolls, and learning early what it meant to be around a business in constant motion.
From the beginning, fashion and design were a constant presence. They remember spending time in Jane’s early stores, collecting fabric offcuts and pinning them together, quietly sketching and experimenting with ideas of her own. Design books were stacked throughout the house, sewing machines ran continuously, and mannequins became familiar fixtures rather than novelties.
Sketches spread across tables, mannequins draped in fabric and beads mid-concept, and the inevitable pins turning up where they shouldn’t. Long hours in fabric stores and the house covered in glitter from experimental dyeing projects were simply part of everyday life.
Annual runway parades were a highlight, elegant models in ivory gowns, the atmosphere charged with anticipation. These moments, along with the behind-the-scenes work, formed the backdrop of their upbringing.
When Jane passed away in 2013, the decision to continue the business was immediate. Jasmine and Bella stepped into leadership roles, alongside their grandfather John, who serves as Director. Over the past decade, they have expanded the brand well beyond its original Toorak Road boutique, taking it onto the global stage.
Today, Jane Hill gowns are stocked in over 100 stores worldwide, with continued international growth. Despite this expansion, the principles Jane instilled remain central, a commitment to quality, craftsmanship, and genuine care for each bride. Jane was known for treating consultations as conversations, building trust and connection alongside the design process.
These values continue to guide the business today. In carrying forward Jane’s legacy, Jasmine and Bella are doing exactly what their mother always believed they would: running the business with integrity, purpose, and respect for the foundations on which it was built.
